With the largest population in the United States, and one of the biggest economies in the world, in some ways, California is more akin to a country than a state. The state is physically, demographically and culturally diverse. Across the state you can view enormous mountain ranges, temperate beaches, lovely coastal areas, and fertile farmland. The overwhelming majority of residents live within only 50 miles of the Pacific Ocean. California’s temperate weather, laid-back attitude and diversity of thought, politics, people and geography, attract tourists and immigrants in droves.
Being such a populous state, and not having a unified public transportation system, California has the notoriety of being second only to New York in traffic congestion.
