Minnesota is known for its many lakes, over 15,000, and scenic national parks. The state has a strong Scandinavian influence, heard in the sing-songy, Scandinavian accent of its residents, and evident in some of the states past times, including the Scandinavian favorite ice fishing. Minnesota boasts strong commitments to the values of education, social services, and environmentalism. It is known for liberal, even populist, politics and sometimes quirky politicians (one governor was a former professional wrestler).
