Mississippi is located in the Southern United States. It is sometimes called the “Magnolia State” referencing the state tree. Mississippi was the twentieth state to be admitted to the Union, in 1817. Its most populous city is the state capital, Jackson.

The Natchez Trace Parkway, named an All American Road by the federal government, extends from Natchez to just south of Nashville, Tennessee. The Trace began as an Indian trail more than 8,000 years ago.
