Coupes are the vixens of the automotive world. Vivacious, sexy and robust, coupes share a certain sporting ethos over a broad assortment of forms—they all share the defining characteristics of a hardtop and two doors, but vary a great deal in their intent of design.
Some are merely a two-door variant of a four-door sedan, such as the Dodge Neon coupe, while others are designed as a coupe from the onset, such as the proverbial Chevy Corvette, whose sinister design, prodigious power, and stoic handling give coupes their much venerated reputation.
Many coupes are the posh pinnacles of automotive design, such as the
Mercedes-Benz CL-class, or the BMW 6-Series; these titillating models exemplify the perfect blend of style, luxury, and performance. Most are aimed at performance-minded buyers, whose needs lean more towards cornering and power than rear-seat comfort and trunk space (though many coupes offer both).
