Missouri is a Midwestern state often called the “show me” state, referencing the skeptical, conservative nature of its residents. The Mississippi and Missouri Rivers both flow through this state. The Ozark plains, Ozark Mountains and the Mississippi Alluvial Plains (the lowest, flattest, and most fertile land in the state) comprise the state’s geography. Manufacturing, farming and industry are the main economies. Missouri is ranked 6th in the nation for the production of hogs and 7th for cattle. Missouri produces the most lead of all of the states in the country. Missouri also ranks first for the production of lime.
