Utah is located in the Rocky Mountains region of the western United States. Salt Lake City is the capital. Utah has a large Mormon population, comprising 70% of the religious population. Utah is a rugged and dry (arid) land with amazing natural scenery. Because of the state's inland location Utah's snow is unusually dry, earning it the reputation of having the world's greatest powder. Fourteen Alpine ski resorts operate in Utah. The state’s ski resorts in the north and national parks in the south draw tourists in winter and summer. Utah has six national forests and six national forests, resulting in the government owning 65% of the land. The largest public employer in Utah is the Utah State Government.
