What does Edmunds.com say?
”Still one of our favorites in the category, the Escape is a very capable small SUV thanks to its powerful V6 and hybrid electric engines, spacious cabin and carlike handling.”

Pros
Powerful V6, quick and efficient hybrid model, large cargo capacity, comfortable interior, carlike handling, optional side curtain airbags.

Cons
Small gas tank size limits cruising range, so-so interior materials quality.

Safety

The Escape has a very good safety record. It received five stars for the driver in frontal impacts and four stars for the front passenger.,In side-impact crash tests, the Escape received five stars for both front- and rear-seat occupants. However, the Escape's got only an "Acceptable" rating in the frontal offset crash test.
